A sensual portrait of an urban community that explores human desires, ambitions and fragility through the daily activities of a swimming club. In a spectacular setting overlooking the beach, port and city of Barcelona, suntanned grannies, world-class athletes and the body-beautiful converge in their search for happiness and wellbeing.
This 67-minute documentary is the result of two years intense exploration of life at the club by the director Rose Kowalski and producer Madeleine Sheahan (both club members).
"When we started coming to the club we were struck by the atmosphere of community and tolerance. We were inspired by the enthusiasm for life the club members exuded and how just coming through the door was to enter a microcosm of life. We recognised it as an ideal situation to make a film and to share that experience. In this film, the club is the setting for a journey from childhood to old age and we share profound and intimate moments with people we encounter at different points on the great wheel of life.” – Rose Kowalski.
The film was shot on 16mm film and digital video. The use of film provided particularly gorgeous images of water and the human body – training, swimming and relaxing.
